Here’s how to prevent frozen pipes during this week’s bitter cold
Apply heat to the frozen pipe by warming the air around it, or by applying heat directly to a pipe. You can use a hair dryer, space heater or hot water. Avoid using kerosene heaters or open flames. Once the pipes have thawed, turn the water back on slowly and check for cracks and leaks.
Lake-effect snow, bitter cold to grip Finger Lakes, CNY this week
Persistent lake-effect snow north of Route 104 is projected to add another 4 to 8 inches of accumulation, making travel hazardous, especially during the morning commute. Neighboring Wayne and northern Cayuga counties are under a Winter Weather Advisory until 7 p.
