There are different levels of certification to go diving. Most common is the park open water which requires about 2 days of class time and 2 days of pool time and 4 supervised dives. This will certify you to 60 feet. Alternatively there is a mini 2 hour lesson that allows you to go 30 feet. At least with the first one you have to demonstrate you came stay afloat for 10 mins.

They said yes the last time my husband and I went out. He had a cold and couldn’t dive. However, the location they were going to on the north wall was really wavy that day and we found out snorkeling wasn’t going to be good. He stayed at the resort and snorkeled while I dove. At least they told us.
